Haven't had to do anything similiar but I would guess that:
 - if you turned on msgsniff
 - and turned 'machine on'

you could see the messages Yate was emitting for the call; if you wrote 
something which caught either Yate events or modified the timer parameter 
by the ringtime that was observed when the call was answered, it should 
do what you want.
